A simple Myanmar meal

Joshua was home for Spring Break for 8 days.  I taught him a few cooking lessons.  This was one of them. I psosted the picture on facebook and 2 friends asked for the recipe. Here is the Shrimp recipe. By the way the green beans are simply steamed and rice cooked in rice cooker.  Enjoy!



Myanmar Shrimp Curry (Pazun hin)

1.5 lbs jumbo shrimp (peeled and deveined)
3 cloves garlic (peeled, smashed and chopped)
1 teaspoon roughly chopped fresh ginger (optional)
1 large onion or 4 regular size shallot (peeled and chopped)
7 roma tomatoes (washed and sliced thinly)
2 tablespoons of fish sauce
1 table spoon turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Cilantro for grnish (optional)
3 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil


Instruction:

In a large bowl mix shrimp and fish sauce and half of the turmeric.

In a large sauce pan heat oil
Fry onion till soft and translucent
Add garlic and ginger cook till you like the smell
Add turmeric powder. Stir.
Add tomatoes. Stir.
Cook till tomato turned into sauce. Don’t burn the bottom.
Add shrimp. Stir till cooked.
Add cilantro if you wish.

Serve right away with white steamed rice and steamed green vegetables.
